If you were tuned to triple j this morning, you would have heard two affable blokes named Gus and Rig come on just before Like A Version.

Well, they’ll be on air every weekday morning with Ben and Liam throughout the Winter Olympics as they bring the nation all the action from the Games, despite not actually being granted media accreditation from the AOC (a slight hitch, that’s all).

Throughout the weeks that follow the boys will be recapping all the thrills, spills and silliness of the games, highlighting those under-appreciated nations, the rubbish ones who have no chance of winning a medal, or even being within viewing distance of the winner’s podium.

Take for example, the Nigerian bobsled team who did a fundraiser drive to buy the actual bobsled and “pay for bobsled driving lessons.” These are the heroes they will focus on.

Gus and Rig will also introduce you to Riggustan, the “people’s country”, and attempt to sneak into the Olympic Village.

In addition to being on triple j each morning, there will also be a daily podcast named Medallica where you can further follow their exploits.

Of course, none of this answers your original question: Who are these Gus and Rig blokes?

Well, you may also know them as the hosts of the hilarious podcast ShitShow, a weekly event that kind of plays out like a combination talk show, history lesson, and improv comedy night. They sold out two nights at Oxford Art Factory late last year, both of which are available as live podcasts.

You may have also heard them on triple j in 2016 during the Rio Olympics, where they occupied a similarly silly role as off-kilter correspondences.

“I’d always wanted to do an Olympics-themed podcast, and we jumped in feet-first into the dead set fuck-show that was the Rio Olympics”, Rig explained to us. “It was a podcast called Medallica: Minnows vs The World, which was flipping the Olympics on its head and only focusing on countries that had never won a medal.

“The Rio Olympics was an organisational clusterfuck, which meant a lot of good content came out of it, [like] a segment called ‘Apocalympics Now’. Triple j got wind of it, and all of a sudden we’re on Matt & Alex in the morning, and it went onwards and upwards from there.”
