In the penultimate episode of ‘House of the Dragon’, the war for the Iron Throne has begun. The time to choose a side is now and the Hightowers are taking no prisoners.
The Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon takes us back 200 years before Daenarys vowed to “break the wheel” and shows the Targaryen family at the height of their power. Ruling over Westeros was King Viserys Tagaryan (Paddy Considine), his daughter Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), Queen Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), Ser Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) and the disgruntled brother of the King, Daemon (Matt Smith).
Episode nine, ‘The Green Council’ is the culmination of everything that’s come before. With the King dead and Alicent misunderstanding his final wishes, the players make their moves and war is inevitable.
But Princess Helaena impresses a grave warning upon Alicent… There is a beast beneath the boards.

Spoilers ahead!
“The king is dead,” announces Ser Otto Hightower. Though somewhat saddened, this is the moment he has been waiting for. ‘The Green Council’ is a fitting title for the episode, as the Hightowers take control.
Almost immediately he requests the murder of Rhaenyra and Daemon, jails their followers and forces the other houses into submission.
However, Aegon is nowhere to be found. Otto sends men to find him and bring him only to him and as does Alicent. It’s a race.
As the men scout the city, it becomes clear to them the terrible person Aegon is and Aemond admits his thirst for the throne.
Regardless, Aegon is crowned. But it wouldn’t be Game of Thrones without a mass gathering ending in something terrible. So, Princess Rhaenys explodes from beneath the floor, riding her dragon.
Helaena’s prophecy has come true. Rhanenys approaches the newly crowned King makes her stance clear: she stands with Rhaenyra. She flies off, assumingly to tell Rhaenyra of the new green council. War has begun.
Neither Daemon or Rhaenyra appear in this episode. Instead choosing to focus on the rapid ascension of Aegon. But we can be sure that they will be plotting their next move.
