Will Ferrell is one of modern comedy’s hallmarks. Since his debut on Saturday Night Live in the early 90s, Ferrell has crafted characters that have sent generations into fits of laughing hysterics, and constantly offered up his unique brand goofiness in exciting ways.

Admittedly in recent years, Ferrell has failed to hit his stride. I am a Will Ferrell stan, and will wholeheartedly admit the last eight years have not been pretty for the legend.

Whilst his Mark Wahlberg collaboration, 2105’s Daddy’s Home offered up a few light-hearted chuckles, his last great film was The Other Guys, released back in 2010.

Now, Ferrell’s most recent cinematic offering Holmes And Watson has hit a new low amongst critics and fans alike. The new movie, starring Ferrell and his longtime collaborator John C. Reily, has accrued a rare 0% rating on Rotton Tomatoes since its release.

The film has received a few shocking reviews, with  Entertainment Weekly describing it as a “brain-dead caper,” whilst  The Hollywood Reporter called it “devastatingly unfunny.” Ouch.

Will Ferrell and John C. Reily are responsible for a few total classics together – Taladega Nights and Step Brothers are undeniably some of the 21st centuries finest comedy films.

Most people seem to be begging the question – what exactly went wrong? Could they not recapture the flames of the famed Catalina Wine Mixer?
