The incredibly cooked, profoundly cursed Australian Women’s Weekly Birthday Cake book is set for a reissue, 40 years after it initially hit the shelves.
The cookbook permeates through the DNA of Australia. Its glorious, haunting creations take me back to the blissful days of childhood, when everything was beautiful and nothing hurt. Much like when Anton Ego plops that succulent morsel of ratatouille into his mouth, I am projected into a state of halcyon bliss when I recall the untouchable jelly pool cake.
As another lockdown looms, we should ditch the focaccia farce and start tending to the culinary adventures that truly matter. Everything is too chic these days. I don’t want a pistachio praline cake, I don’t want a flourless chocolate number. I want a duck with crisps for a bill. I want a footy field brimming with so much coloured desiccated coconut that I end up dry heaving. Bring back fun.
The Australian Women’s Weekly Birthday Cake book will be available at supermarkets and newsagents from August 17th for a cool $19.99. Alternatively, you can cop a pre-order at Booktopia right this second.
If these cakes weren’t hoodoo enough to satiate you sick freaks, why not throw a totally bankrupt dinner party. Disney recently unleashed the recipe for Principal Skinner of The Simpsons trusty steamed hams.
The recipe, designed in partnership with Masterchef alumni (and total sweetheart) Khahn Ong, actually looks pretty fire. Perfectly seared hamburgers are married with the classic combination of sauce, lettuce, tomato, and cheese. Conceptually? completely demented. Though the way these sinful creations have been executed leaves me salivating at the gob.
