Last month it was announced that Sydney would be saying farewell to Kings Cross’ iconic ‘World Bar’. As a result of lockout laws making it increasingly arduous to maintain a nightlife business.

We’re thrilled to learn that there is a light in the ever-dimming tunnel that is Sydney under lockout laws. It has been announced that the Bayswater Rd venue will be given a new lease on life, under a new name ‘Cali Club’.

The venue will rise like a phoenix from the ashes, under the watchful management of Sydney club stalwarts Dane Gorrel and Matt Weir (Club 77, S.A.S.H.). The pair plan to keep the World Bar party spirit alive. They will continue to host the longstanding World Bar club night ‘The Wall’.

“We need to preserve our nightclub institutions. They have a tremendous impact on Sydney’s culture, and once they go, it’s incredibly hard for them to return,” said Gorrel, “We really want to help keep the candle burning for our city’s night life and continue the venue’s legacy.”

There has been no word yet as to whether those feral teapots will be sticking around.

The Cali Club is set to officialy open Wednesday, December 12.
