Hoping to raise money and awareness for the Young Allies Foundation, these young Aussies are launching the #EverydayRunwayChallenge across Instagram and TikTok.
My name is Lachlan and I started the Young Allies Foundation at 18 years old with a Bachelors degree from the University of Queensland and a mission to help patients and families in children’s hospitals across Australia.
At just 14, I started lobbying the Queensland Government to allow young people to volunteer in Queensland’s public hospitals and I was asked to leave the building.
But this year, as a newly-minted adult, I drew up the papers for incorporation, established a company, worked with the Australian Government over many weeks and became a recognised Public Benevolent Institution – tax benefits and all!
The goal of the Young Allies Foundation is for young people to build a bridge between the community and hospital. This is achieved through ongoing events and programs that provide relief and support for the patients and their families that come to know a hospital as a second home.
In an effort that’s reminiscent of the Ice Bucket Challenge from 2014, we are launching the #EverydayRunwayChallenge with Brisbane’s rising Drag Queen, Beverly Kills!
We want people to strut down their hallway, sashay through their office or even stop traffic on Brisbane’s Story bridge, like Miss Beverly Kills. All in an effort to raise awareness about our work at the Young Allies Foundation and raise money to support our ongoing programs.
During this pandemic we have been looking for more creative ways to deliver services at a COVID-safe distance.
So, we have been working to source and curate Care Hampers that’re filled with everyday comforts and self-care treats. These lovely gifts will be taken straight to the surrounding children’s hospitals and provide some much-needed community love for the patients and their families.
