There’s a Nintendo Direct happening tomorrow morning and we’re expecting big things. Did somebody say Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2?
It’s been a long time between drinks, but set your alarm clocks, Nintendo fans, because we’re getting a mammoth 50-minute Nintendo Direct tomorrow morning. In typical Ninty fashion, the news was dropped last-minute via a tweet from Nintendo of America, and of course people are already speculating about Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2.
According to said tweet, the Direct will focus on available games as well as titles headed to the console in the first half of this year. However, considering the company’s last major showcase was back in September 2019, our minds are frothing with possibilities.

So why do we think there’s a shot at seeing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2? As luck would have it, next week marks the franchise’s 35th birthday. It’s a major milestone and the perfect excuse for Nintendo to net a bit of extra cash. Last year, for example, Mario’s big day was met with the announcement of Super Mario 3D All-Stars and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury.
Does that mean you can expect to see a similar Zelda-themed collection? Take that one to the bank, but some serious Breath of the Wild 2 footage is the real shot in the arm Nintendo could use to kick off the year. The unexpected sequel was first announced back in 2019, but we’ve heard nary a whisper since then. If rumours of a 2021 release date are to be believed, then it’s an exciting time to be alive, friends.

Elsewhere, a new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character will likely be announced throughout the stream, meaning we might finally see the likes of Crash Bandicoot or Halo’s Master Chief join the ranks. Or another bloody Fire Emblem character…
Least likely is the reveal of the Switch Pro – a long-rumoured more powerful version of the insanely popular system. We definitely think it’s on the cards for this year, just don’t go getting your hopes up for now.
If you plan on tuning into the event, these are the times across Australia.
