An important work based on a true contemporary tragedy.

The Sydney Royal Botanic Garden is set to present Sydney-based Wiradjuri/Kamilaroi artist Jonathan Jones’ captivating installation for 17 days.

Jones’ installation Barrangal Dyara was inspired by the history of the venue, the site where the Century Palace building went up in flames in the 19th century. The cause of the fire is still a mystery till this day.

The heart of Jones’ artistic work lies in delving into the ideas of local knowledge systems. His latest vast and ambitious installation is remarkably three times the size of the Queen Victoria Building. It consists of 15,000 white shields covering the original footprint of the Garden Palace building.

The Kaldor Public Art Project will be held at the Royal Botanic Garden from 17 September to 3 October 2016. For more information, head here.
