The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras has released its much-anticipated program for its 2016 event, all under the theme of‘Momentum’.

As part of its festival of acceptance and pride for the LGBTQI community,the Mardi Gras’Momentumtheme focuses on the small but steady movement towards equality in Australia.

The 2016 Mardi Gras will see sequins, self-expression and cinema as well as the massive Parade across town on Saturday March 5. The headline event will wind its way towards Moore Park and the Entertainment Quarter, where the official Mardi Gras Party will keep things rolling into the late hours.

But the full Mardi Gras program extends to much more, including theatre, music, visual arts, sports and film.Courtney Act and Trevor Ashley will take over the Sydney Opera House, transforming it into a Rainbow Room from Thursday March 3 – Saturday March 5, while iOTA will also hit the Sydney stage, alongside theatre piecesThe Pride,5 Lesbians Eating A QuicheandThe Ultimate Lesbian Double Feature.

Gay icons Tina Arena and Conchita Wurst feature on the musical program, with the latter performing alongside the Sydney Symphony at the Opera House, while the Mardi Gras Film Festival is back thanks to Queer Screen and Event Cinemas George Street from Thursday February 18 – Thursday March 3.
