Australia voted in favour of marriage equality — well, 61.6% of us did, anyway — which now means that across the country, we will be flooded with beautiful marriage celebrations, public and private declarations of love, proposals, parties, and all that beautiful stuff.
What a lovely way to end a horrible year.
What a wonderful way to begin a new one.
Of course, this is an oversimplification — there is a long, long way to go for true equality — but this is a time to celebrate.
Peace. Love. Marriage. Equality. Confetti. etc.
It looks like this will be law before Xmas, as Turnbull’s below statement and speech suggests.
The people of Australia have spoken and I intend to make their wish the law of the land by Christmas. This is an overwhelming call for marriage equality. pic.twitter.com/PWZbH5H71r
