Joseph Gordon-Levitt is set to star in a brand new anthology style TV series. With each season set to unpack and explore a different story which changed the world of business and its culture, the inaugural series will kick off by telling the story of the rise of Uber.

The show is known as Super Pumped and was first brought into development in 2019.

According to Varietythe first season of the show is based on a book by Mike Isaac called Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber, and Gordon-Levitt will portray the role of the protagonist, Travis Kalanick – the ride sharing app’s first co-founder and CEO who experiences the highs and lows that are Silicon Valley.

As the story goes, Kalanick was ejected from the company in ‘boardroom coup’.

Gordon-Levitt took to Instagram to share the news of his new role on Instagram. He wrote, “In a way, playing Uber co-founder Travis Kalanick in this limited series is the opposite of playing the role I wrote for myself in Mr. Corman — Travis is a cruel billionaire. Josh is a kind hearted public school teacher. Why do we reward misanthropes more than nice guys? Really fascinated by this story about both the virtues and the vices of Silicon Valley.”

Showtime’s executive vice president of scripted programing, Amy Israel, said, “Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a remarkably intelligent and charismatic actor, embodying charm with an unpredictable edge. We are beyond excited to see what he will bring to the role of Travis Kalanick, the hyper-brilliant and controversial CEO whose ambition and reckless drive threatened the very enterprise he was determined to build.”

She continued, “We are equally thrilled to be partnering on another series with Brian Koppelman, David Levien and Beth Schacter, who always deliver provocative and deeply entertaining shows that drive cultural conversation.”
