1. Growing Up

We grew up in Adelaide and Sydney with our dad waking us up in the morning to Pink Floyd’s The Wall. Mum was in the original cast of HAIR, so she would always be singing Janis Joplin and Fleetwood Mac.

2. Inspirations

So many great ones ranging from Nirvana, Prince, Steve Reich, Nina Simone and Pretty Lights; it’s all inspiring, as long as you can feel where the muso is at in the song.

3. Your Band

The Kin comprises brothers Thorald and Isaac Koren and NYC subway drummer Mark Nicosia, AKA Shakerleg. We met down in the subway and asked Shakes to join our band… He said ‘no’ and the rest is history.

4. The Music You Make

Bleeding hands, heart on sleeve, steampunk and danger pop.

5. Music, Right Here, Right Now

The music scene is great. There’s so much amazing music coming out from everywhere. The scene is maybe more global than local. I wish the local pubs in Oz would replace a few of the pokies for live music!

The Kin play Brighton Up Bar on Tuesday October 29.
