Every iteration of the popular series Mario Kart has featured a dazzling final course filled with colour and light named ‘Rainbow Road’, which is fairly psychedelic even for a video game franchise which involves taking mushrooms that make you larger, smaller, or give you an extra life.
The music adds to the trippiness of the level, which is why it’s great that the excellently-named Dream Beach have unleashed a full-band version of the Rainbow Road theme. It’s quite faithful, without being a mere facsimile.
The accompanying video is goofy and wacky to the point of distraction, but the sound is spot on. Check out their version below, as well as a retrospective video about the evolution of Rainbow Road throughout the years, ‘cos why not?
