Ceramacist and designer Mark Thompson’s latest exhibition throws back to a world of traditional Meissen china figurines, creating a world of unsettled figures with deprecating gestures, strange habits, surreal juxtapositions.

Thompson’s firugres are at once concerned with the resonance of historical achievement and its quotidian echoes, as the exhibition title, Of Meissen Men,winks at. Cross-dressing warriors and pug dogs, louche, lounging dolls make up a body of work meant for the mantelpieces and coffee tables of ‘now’. Definitely not something you will find in your grandparents’ dining room.

Mark Thompson’s Of Meissen Men will be showing at theRobin Gibson Galleryin Darlinghurst fromSaturday August 30 – Wednesday September 24.
