As the schedule for the National Folk Festival gradually expands, prepare to get yourself folked up.

New acts for the 2016 event include The Jerry Cans, an act from northern Canada who have been described as the Inuit answer to The Pogues. Combining throat singing, accordion mashing and frenetic bass work, the group use traditional instruments to play a distinctly modern brand of folk, creating an anachronistic mash-up of styles that works perhaps better than one might expect.

But it’s not just international acts that have joined the roster: Melbourne’s Perch Creek and the entrancing Loren Kate are just two of many Australian acts that have joined the festival, padding out a roster filled with diverse local talents. March next year can’t quite come fast enough, it seems.

The 50th National Folk Festival will take place from Thursday March 24 – Monday March 28 at Exhibition Park in Canberra. For all future announcements you can visit the National Folk Festival website here.
