Grammy Award-winner and troubadour of all things weird and wonderful Jack White has launched the Third-D App today, which allows users to watch a selection of his live shows in 3D.

In a collaboration between Jack White’s label Third Man Records and Jaunt VR, the free app is now available on the Google Play store, which means the app is accessible for Android phone users only, and promises an “immersive 360 degree, stereoscopic 3D” experience. The live performances have also been mixed by Dolby Atmos, with the aim to create a fully-immersive live experience through your phone.

Along with an Andriod phone, you will also need Google Cardboard, a small box that transforms your phone into a basic virtual reality headset. If you don’t have one, it is possible to build your own.

The app features Jack White and band playing ‘Freedom At 21’ and ‘Ball And Biscuit’ at The Bleacher Theatre at Fenway Park, and ‘Dead Leaves And The Dirty Ground’ live at Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

This is not White’s first peculiar release – his album Lazaretto was released in the Ultra LP format, which among other things included two hidden tracks etched into the labels of the record. In 2012, he released a 7″ single exclusively via balloons released into the sky.

The Third-D App is available now on the Google Play store for free, and needs a Google Cardboard phone holder to work.
