Homer Simpson is a hero of mine and perhaps the greatest all-time TV dad.

A no-hoper with a nuclear family of 2.5 kids, satisfied with beer, television and donuts. He was the antihero remedy for aw shucks TV dads from the 80s and 90s, full of folksy wisdom and support for their kids. Homer is angry, selfish, childish, hungry, stupid and hilarious.

But if you’re a dad, you’ll recognise parts of yourself in his life.

Initially, he’s … stressed by new arrivals

But always on hand with sage advice

Reassuring in times of distress

Leaping into the path of danger

And helping Lisa with her projects

The dude wrote Baby On Board

At heart, family is what matters to him. Working a job you hate? Do It For Her.
