NBA 2K22 has revealed some of the artists behind its upcoming soundtrack, and it includes Australia’s own hip hop duo A.B Original.

The NBA 2K series has always had a pretty strong connection with the music scene. For the 2013 iteration, for example, the juggernaut franchise managed to snag Jay Z as an executive producer and curate its soundtrack. Yep, these folks got some cash to splash around.

Now for NBA 2K 2022 we’re getting some Aussie representation with the announcement that A.B. Original will be featured in the upcoming game’s playlist. The local hip hop duo will be joining an impressive line-up of big hitters including Megan Thee Stallion, Travis Scott and Skepta.

A.B. Original rose to prominence with their exceptional album Reclaim Australia, which saw them snag a tidy five AIR awards – including the grand prize.

“Basketball and music are so intertwined and have become an integral part of our game,” said Alfie Brody, Vice President of Global Marketing for NBA 2K.

NBA 2K has become a global platform for music discovery and that continues with NBA 2K22. This year, we are creating a dynamic soundtrack, complete with early access to unreleased tracks, new artists, and opportunities for fans to become part of the experience and solidify their place in video game history.”

Interestingly, the series is also introducing a new ‘Producer Series’ which apparently will grant wannabe music stars the opportunity to record their own verses over beats. That said, how exactly that feature is going to work, as well as how it’ll be integrated into NBA 2K22’s soundtrack has yet to be unveiled.
