The Replay Karaoke Lounge and Bar in Bankstown has been temporarily shut down over the weekend by the NSW Independent Liquor & Gaming Authority Board due to irresponsible service of alcohol.
The ILGA found that the bar breached a number of conditions allowed by their licence, including selling shots, full bottles of spirits, and operating outside of approved trading hours. Currently, the venue has been closed from 5pm on Friday, May 5th, and will remain so until 5pm on Monday, May 8th.
Liquor & Gaming NSW undercover inspectors attended the karaoke bar on Friday, April 28th and detected these breaches of licence conditions. The inspectors also found a severely intoxicated female patron unable to stand unassisted and vomiting into a bucket provided by venue staff. As stated under liquor laws in NSW, licensees are obliged to prevent intoxication from occurring on their premises.
Sean Goodchild, Director of Compliance Operations for Liquor & Gaming NSW said in a statement that this case should serve as a warning to licence holders that cannot operate outside of the prescribed liquor laws in NSW.
“Liquor licensees who blatantly flout their licence conditions and responsible service of alcohol jeopardise the safety of their patrons and the community,” said Mr. Goodchild. “Most venues do adhere to their liquor licence conditions, but this case shows that those who choose to ignore their licence conditions can expect to face regulatory action.”
