As if Jetstar didn’t have enough problems on its hands, one of its passengers delayed takeoff of a flight after he decided to light a cigarette.

The time for a cheeky smoke is never on a flight between Melbourne and Bali, old mate. TikTok footage showed the man being escorted off the Jetstar flight by police earlier this week.

“This guy thinks a delayed flight means he can light a dart on the plane. No Bali vacay for you now,” the woman who who made the TikTok wrote. Despite boarding the flight at 3pm, takeoff didn’t occur until after 7pm.

According to a Jetstar spokesperson, the man “lit a cigarette on board the aircraft prior to departure.” “Smoking, vaping or the use of electronic cigarettes is not permitted on any Jetstar aircraft, in Australian airport terminals or on the tarmac,” the spokesperson told news.com.au.

What made it worse was that the Melbourne to Bali flight had already been delayed prior to the, um, ill-timed smoko.

“When your flight to Bali is already delayed and this guy decides to light a dart so we then have to wait for the police to escort him off,” she mocked.

It’s been a tough week for the airline. Thousands of Aussies were left stranded on Bali due to ongoing issues with Jetstar earlier this week, with reportedly between 1,000 and 4,000 Aussies being booted off their booked flights from Denpasar to Australia.

Though September is less than a week in, multiple Jetstar flights leaving from the Indonesian airport have already been cancelled this month due to “engineering issues.”

“We sincerely apologise for the frustration and inconvenience this disruption has caused our customers,” a Jetstar spokesperson said in a statement.

It continued, “Our teams are looking at every option to get passengers on their way as soon as possible, including seats on Qantas flights and operating ad hoc services where possible.

“A flight credit or refund will also be made available to passengers who no longer wish to travel.”
