Some people just can’t enjoy things like lockdown finally ending without acting stupid. A Melbourne cafe has been vandalised with anti-vaccination graffiti on the first free weekend after the city’s tough sixth lockdown finished.

Blacksheep Cafe in South Kingsville, in Melbourne’s Inner West, had its front wall targeted by vandals. “Discrimination is not OK” the graffiti read, presumably a dig at Blacksheep Cafe enforcing mandatory government COVID-19 checks which block unvaccinated customers from dining in cafes and restaurants.

The cafe’s owners revealed the dismaying news on their Instagram page. “Happy Monday Morning all! So this is what we get for following government guidelines and just doing our jobs,” they wrote alongside a picture of the graffiti.

Whoever sprayed the graffiti might be in for a rough summer given that Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews has warned that rules preventing unvaccinated people from going out to cafes and bars might be in place until “well and truly into 2022.”

As it stands currently, unvaccinated customers have to make do with takeaway services only. Victoria’s COVID-19 rules are scheduled to ease even further at 6pm on Friday, October 29th, but unvaccinated people will remain locked out of hospitality joints.

The comments on the Blacksheep’s Instagram post were unanimously supportive. “Just disgusting behaviour… sorry to this happening in our area and to you guys,” wrote one person.

“Really sorry to see this guys, I ordered food from you over the weekend and your service was exceptional! Keep up your great work!,” said another. “Some people just have no idea. So sorry they have taken it out on you guys,” someone else added.

It was Health Minister Martin Foley who said it best this week: “graffiti doesn’t work against the virus,” he replied when asked about businesses possibly being targeted by vandals for enforcing the government’s COVID rules.
