Young Aussie actress Sariah Saibu, who starred in the award-winning film Beautiful They has died suddenly.

Sariah’s family confirmed on social media that she passed on January 30th but didn’t share her cause of death.

“This morning we lost our darling Sariah,” her aunt Cassandra Colvin wrote on Facebook.

“I am struggling to find the words to express the grief that I and her family are feeling at this time.

“RIP beautiful – all our love always.”

Sariah starred in the short LGBTQI+ film Beautiful They which was released in 2021 and was about two young surfers who fall in love. The flick was a hit at  Melbourne International Film Festival and also drew in large crowds at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York.

The movie won the Australian Director‘s Guild‘s Best Direction of a Short Film award as well as being nominated for the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts‘s (AACTA) Best Short Form Drama award. Last year, it was also hailed as the Best Film at Queer Screen Mardi Gras and recognized with the City Of Melbourne‘s Best Australian Short Film.

A Go Fund Me page has been opened to help Sariah’s family cover costs for her funeral and it has raised $5,984 at the time of writing.

“Sariah is the Queen, the Karaoke King, the Star, and the Icon. The Princess of not only Perth, but Darwin. The protaganist of our lives and gem of our hearts,” the description on the GoFundMe reads.
It continues, “Sariah made everlasting impressions on her community, which has been felt and greatly appreciated by her family and closest friends. Every Princess deserves an extra, sassy and heartfelt celebration of life.
“We all understand there are extensive costs in these kinds of things. If you’d like to continue to support Sariah’s family during this time, and have financial capacity, please donate towards this celebration of her life.”
A memorial will be held for Sariah on February 15th and guests are asked to wear bright colours to celebrate her life.
