It seems like Abbie Chatfield and her boyfriend Konrad Bien-Stephens are in a burgeoning open relationship.
Abbie made the revelation on the latest episode of her It’s A Lot podcast as the couple discussed their romance. “First of all, we’re in love. Mummy and daddy aren’t breaking up … We’re just having a different structure to our relationship. So we’re open. We’re in an open relationship, which we love,” she explained.
While Konrad admitted that he’d never done anything like this before, he said it was “something I want to explore and I want to navigate and learn.” He added: “Someone we met on the weekend gave us some good tips. Go see a sex therapist, talk about what your boundaries are… Because it’s not like you can just go sleep with anyone.”
Abbie then dropped the bombshell that the pair “can still cheat on each other,” although there are some rules in place. “We can still cheat,” Konrad agreed. “So that’s the stuff I want to learn because I feel like there’s so much more to a relationship than just sex.” Only he said that he had cheated at this stage, with Abbie not having considered it yet.
“I don’t care about someone’s genitals going near someone else’s genitals, I care about the lying, I care about getting an STI,” she insisted. “I don’t care. In fact, hate to break it to you, it’s my kink.”
In terms of relationship rules, they said that these included not cheating with anyone they knew or had slept with before. And when Konrad did cheat, he also called Abbie the following day. “She was like, ‘Yeah hot, tell me all about it’.”
The couple only started dating in November and currently reside in separate cities (Konrad lives in Melbourne while Abbie is based in Sydney), which probably makes it easier to explore this type of relationship.
