Miranda Fryer, was played the character of Skye Mangel on Neighbours for three years, has died at age 34.

Fryer played the iconic character on the soap and began her tenure in 1989, when she was just 18 months old. She remained on the show for three years, until she was written out.

Most avid Neighbours fans would be familiar with the character Skye Mangel, she was featured on the show as a baby and then returned as an adult. However, when Skye was a baby she was played by Miranda Fryer, and when she returned as adult she was played by Stephenie McIntosh.

Fryer’s family has confirmed to TV Tonight that she passed away in her sleep on January 6th, 2022. They told the publication that she had some health issues with her heart.

“True soulmates, Miranda and Arthur were making plans to start their family, when one day last week she went to sleep and never woke up. We do not know why. She had had some health issues with her heart, maybe her beautiful persona was just too good for this world of ours. We, who all loved her so much, shall treasure the memories she has left us with and mourn our loss forever,” her family said in a statement.

They added: “a beautiful child, stunning teenager, beautiful inside, and out… a woman, with so much love and happiness given and received. So many friends, so much still to offer this world, gone.”

Fryer left acting at a young age, and went on to complete a degree in Nursing at Monash University. In November of 2020, she married her long term partner Arthur Pothitis in a beach ceremony in Aspendale.

Jan Russ, who worked as the Neighbours casting director for 24 years, also released a statement on Fryer’s untimely passing.

“I feel so very sad to lose one of my cast and especially one so young as Miranda who spent her very young years on the show …I love them like my own and feel the loss when they pass,” she told TV Tonight.
