Ally Langdon will be taking over from Tracy Grimshaw as the host of A Current Affair, however, her new role comes with a hefty six-figure pay cut.

Insiders told Daily Telegraph that Langdon is on a $1 million salary at the Today show, which sees her spend 17.5 hours per week on air. The same sources said that Langdon hesitated over taking the ACA role because it would involve a pay cut.

Although the prime time job only involves a 2.5 hour per week on air commitment, insiders say that Tracy Grimshaw was paid $750,000 – $250,000 less than Langdon’s current salary. According to the publication, after weeks of negotiations, Langdon managed to sign a contract with a higher salary than Grimshaw received.

The inflated deal could be the reason behind Grimshaw’s highly publicised snub of Langdon last week. Footage emerged of Grimshaw walking down the hallway of ACA after her last ever show and a number of Channel 7 journalists and presenters were waiting to congratulate her.

As Langdon reached out for a huge, Grimshaw appeared to shake her head at her before ignoring her and hugging Karl Stefanovic who was next in line.

Langdon spoke about the incident on the Today show the following day.

“That’s where my heart breaks,” Langdon said as the clip played. “I’m devastated. I mean, I turned to you at the time going “Tracy Grimshaw just brushed me.” When you get brushed by your hero, I gotta say it hurts.”

However, Langdon’s Today show host, Karl Stefanovic, said Grimshaw had written him a note to read to Langdon on the show.

“Ally, I just watched the guard of honor from last night and I saw you went in to give me a hug,” she wrote.

“And I hugged bloody Karl! I’m sorry I missed you. I was so overwhelmed and obviously didn’t see your petite head once his big boofhead loomed into vision. Big sorry.”

Grimshaw also addressed the snub on Twitter. “It’s come to my attention that some people are seriously suggesting I snubbed Ally here. Of course I didn’t and wouldn’t. I was emotional, flustered and completely overwhelmed and just didn’t see her,” she wrote.
