Just one day after a tentative ruling was revealed publicly, Amanda Bynes has been officially freed from her conservatorship.
Yesterday it was reported that the former child actress was less than 24 hours from gaining personal freedom. Legal documents showed that the judge overseeing Amanda’s case had issued a tentative ruling stating that her conservatorship is “no longer required.”
And now, as per TMZ, the ruling has been made official at a new hearing. “Amanda appreciates the love and support of her fans during this time,” Amanda’s attorney, David A. Esquibias, shared after the ruling. “She thanks her family for never giving up. Now that the conservatorship has ended, she looks forward to completing her bachelor’s degree and living her life.”
The famous child actress had been under a conservatorship since 2013, following a series of concerning episodes that were reportedly brought on by Amanda’s bipolar disorder. After entering AA, Amanda says she’s been sober for the past several years.
According to TMZ, Amanda is ready for some big life changes once the conservatorship officially comes to an end, including moving into her own house with her fiancé.
The incoming end of Amanda’s conservatorship follows the ceasing of another 00s icon’s conservatorship last year. An L.A. judge gave Britney Spears freedom in November, bringing to and the conservatorship that had controlled her life and money for over a decade. Britney certainly faced a tough journey to close her conservatorship, with her family fiercely opposing the move.
Amanda was one of the biggest stars on Nickelodeon in the 90s and 00s, first appearing on the sketch comedy series All That. It was its spinoff series The Amanda Show that really brought her fame, followed by praised film roles in 2003’s What a Girl Wants, 2005’s Robots, and 2006’s She’s the Man. Two of her former All That costars, Leon Frierson and Christy Knowings, showed their support at court, although Amanda herself didn’t make an appearance.
