Creating Change. One Story At A Time.
That’s the motto of Outfest, an organisation founded by UCLA students in 1982 to promote LGBTQ equality through the medium of film. Since those days, Outfest has grown to host one of Los Angeles’ leading film festivals – quite an impressive feat in the city that basically invented the silver screen.
Many of these films have now been given an extra boost as Amazon Prime is now hosting 64 of these films as part of its self-publishing program, which allows filmmakers to upload their work to the service while still retaining rights and earning royalties based on total streams. Major titles include G.B.F, A Sinner In Mecca, Open, The Gymnast, Women Who Kill, and Baby Steps. There are comedies, dramas and documentaries — a full list of those titles available to stream is below.
“These are challenging times for many and reports of violence against LGBTQ citizens are on the rise,” said Christopher Racster, executive director of Outfest. “I still believe, though, in the power of our stories to change that narrative.
“It is a relationship like this with Prime Video Direct that will carry our stories across the widest network and reach the most individuals.”
Now the bad news. Amazon Prime is not officially available in Australia, but anyone with a VPN should be able to sidestep this easily.
Better still, there are free trials available, while a six-month subscription only cost USD $2.99 a month (about $3.80 in Aussie dollars).
