Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain, the brand new documentary celebrating the brilliant life of iconic New York chef, Anthony Bourdain has finally released its first trailer.

Described as “an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at how an anonymous chef became a world-renowned cultural icon”, the film takes a deep dive into Bourdain’s omnipresence all around the globe and the timeless nuggets of wisdom he learnt through his travelling adventures.

Kicking things off with an eerily shocking opening line, the trailer reminds us of some of Bourdain’s most remembered words: “You’re probably going to find out about it anyway. So here’s a little preemptive truth telling… there’s no happy ending.”

But before the line takes us down into total despair, they come back with some of Bourdain’s more comedic moments, when he laughs saying things like, “All these TV chefs are so cuddly and adorable. Maybe I’m the antidote or something.”

Directed by the Oscar-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville of Won’t You Be My Neighbor, the film features precious footage of Bourdain before he passed.

The trailer features some of the people who were the closest to the chef, with each speaking of how he was always rushing to get into the scene but also rushing to get out of it. They speak of how he was always searching for something and that society wouldn’t ever live up to his expectations.

While Bourdain rose to prominence for his culinary talents which took him all around the world, restaurateur David Chang reminds us that it was about the biggest picture. He says, “It was almost never about food. It was about Tony learning how to be a better person.”

As per the trailer, the Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain is set to release on July 16th, with the avenue not yet advised.
