In the wonderful world of our favourite celebrities, whether they’re pop stars or movie stars building incredibly beautiful pads which are something out of your wildest dreams, today we’re talking all things Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis.
The Hollywood duo are the latest couple to feature on Architectural Digest, having completed building their dream house from the ground up, working alongside architect Howard Backen (of Backen & Gillam Architects), the master of the modern farmhouse.
Kutcher and Kunis were both clear with what they were after when it came to their dream house. Kunis said that they, “wanted a home, not an estate,” and Kutcher was adamant that they “wanted the house to look like an old barn, something that had been here for decades, that was then converted into a house. But it also had to feel modern and relevant.”
Their new digs are located on a six-acre property, with their house featuring a guesthouse (otherwise known as an entertainment barn), along with a freestanding barbecue pavilion.
Kunis and Kutcher’s was a slow burn, taking a total of five years to get their home complete. Where do you begin with your dream house? With a mood board of course. “Building a house from the ground up is no small thing. This was either going to make us or break us,” Kunis said. And she’s right. Imagine if their mood boards were actually polar opposites? Disaster.
However, as it turns out, their mood boards were actually an exact match. Kutcher said, “When we looked at each other’s boards, 90 percent of the images we selected were the same, and most of the houses we pinned were designed by Howard.”
