Emiliano Tissera is the new NSW PCYC State Boxing Champion in the 57kg weight class.
Tissera took home the championship belt on Sunday December 5th during a big day of ring action at PCYC Hawkesbury, located in Windsor north-west of Sydney.
The Sydney-based Tissera’s win over Harrison Winters of Penrith’s Jabout Boxing Gym is nothing new for the young champ—he’s now achieved victory in all 31 fights of his amateur boxing career. But despite coming in with such an impressive ring-record, the Argentinian-born Tissera recognised his challenger was not to be underestimated.
“I knew I was up against an experienced opponent for this fight, so we wanted to be prepared for any opponent,” Tissera told The Brag. “During the three rounds, the goal was to shorten the distance as we knew this is where we would make a difference to obtain victory.”
The physical and psychological pre-planning from Tissera and his team was crucial in paving his path to victory. Ahead of Sunday’s fight, Tissera worked closely with twin brothers Jason and Andrew Moloney, also known as Team Moloney, a pair of professional boxers from Melbourne.
Under the guidance of Team Maloney, as well as his father and coach, Alejandro Tissera, Emiliano entered the championship bout intent on taking home the championship belt.

“This fight was one more step in Emiliano’s career,” said Alejandro Tissera. “We knew it would not be easy and that is why we invested in the training ground for this fight, training with the professional boxers of the best level, Team Moloney.”
Alejandro added: “I know a lot about sports and I know that if there is no investment, there are no results.”
Tissera’s undefeated record inside the squared circle is impressive, but not surprising for anyone who’s kept up with his progress since arriving in Australia at the beginning of 2019.
Competitive fighting has been a fact of life for Tissera since he was old enough to walk. His father, Alejandro, is a Chinese martial arts master and kick boxing champion. Emiliano started kick boxing in his pre-teen years, which culminated in winning the Argentinian national kick boxing championship at the age of 12.
However, Alejandro was eager to mould Emiliano into an Olympic athlete, which brought about the switch to boxing. Emiliano took to the new sport with aplomb, winning 25 consecutive fights by the time he’d turned 18. But the quest for Olympic glory ultimately led the Tissera family to emigrate to Australia.
Emiliano—who’s nicknamed “El Toro Tissera”—now represents Joe’s Boxing Club, which is headquartered in Five Dock in Sydney’s inner west. His NSW championship title is an important step on his journey towards qualification for the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics.
Emiliano Tissera will compete in the national championships in February 2022. “We rose to the occasion,” said Alejandro. “What follows is more difficult—the national tournament is the next step.”
