Australians will be able to New Zealand and the Pacific Island from July 1st.

The Tourism Restart Taskforce have unveiled a planned ‘proof of concept’ flight between Canberra and Wellington on July 1. The plan was approved by Tourism Minister Simon Birmingham and has been submitted to the ACT government.

“We are saying that New Zealand travel will definitely commence on July 1 and from 10 September we will consider whether other bubbles can commence,” John Hart the Chair of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Tourism share via 7News.

If all goes to plan, July 1st flight will host government officials, media and business representatives, Hart confirmed. “We have done a lot of discussion with the NZ side and they are saying we are good to go,” Hart added.

“These two cities have had a very low incidence of COVID and several days and weeks with no cases, they are sister cities, capital cities and both hubs of business.”

This new travel bubble will not require passengers to enter a 14-day quarantine before returning home.

An airline for the inaugural flight is yet to be revealed. Though if the government had any sense they’d go with Air New Zealand because their flight safety videos are simply unparalleled.
