The first in a trilogy of Avatar: The Last Airbender films is set to be animated in Australia by studio Flying Bark.
A new Avatar: The Last Airbender trilogy, produced by Paramount Pictures, is coming to the big screen. It is now confirmed that European-Australian firm Flying Bark Productions will be animating the first movie of the trilogy. The film will pull from both the Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra source material, which were created by Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino.
The first film will be directed by Lauren Montgomery, with Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino returning to produce. The original series was animated by a host of South Korean studios, including JM Animation, DR Movie, Moi Animation, and Nickelodeon Animation Studios (US). Korra was primarily animated by Studio Mir, known for animating The Boondocks, Young Justice, Dota: Dragon’s Blood, and Harley Quinn.
Flying Bark, which is based in Belgium and has major facilities in Sydney, Australia, describes the film series as “[pushing] the style and boundaries of hybrid animation [..] it will couple traditional 2D animation with substantial CG elements.
