Members of Back To The Future’s cast and crew reunited on Josh Gad’s web series, Reunited Apart, this week. Gad reunited lead actors Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd and Lea Thompson, who played Marty McFly, Doc Brown and Lorraine McFly respectively.

Members of the supporting cast Mary Steenburgen, Elizabeth Shue and Claudia Wells also joined the call periodically.

The stream, which is available in its entirety on YouTube, aimed to raise funds for Project Hope, a charity supporting frontline medical workers.

As well as inviting the actors to join the stream, Gad put the call out to key members of the trilogy’s crew. Writer Bob Gale and writer/director Robert Zemeckis both made an appearance. Zemeckis, who directed all three films, also brought props online with him: a pair of boots and a hoverboard, both used in the second film’s iconic hoverboard sequence.

The cast read memorable snippets of dialogue from the trilogy, including the scene in which Marty McFly wakes up in his mother’s bed in 1955. Christopher Lloyd’s iconic “Great Scott” catchphrase also featured.

Later on, Huey Lewis, who wrote and sang ‘The Power Of Love’ especially for the first film, joined the call.

“I’d never written for film before, and I didn’t know what that meant. And I didn’t fancy writing a song called ‘Back To The Future’,” Lewis recalled.

“I said, ‘the next thing we write we’ll send down’, and it was ‘Power Of Love’”.

Composer Alan Silvestri also appeared on the stream. A veteran film composer, Silvestri’s other writing credits include the scores for Forrest Gump and the Avengers series.

Towards the end of the call, film director J.J. Abrams made an appearance, hosting a Back To The Future trivia session for the cast and crew. A long-time fan of the series, Abrams confessed that when he saw the first film as a teenager, it was love at first sight.

“I remember seeing it, and I remember never wanting to not see it. It’s the perfect movie.”

The stream was rounded out by a performance from the cast and band of Back To Future: The Musical, who sung through ‘The Power Of Love’.
