The Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling ‘Barbie’ movie will have multiple actors playing Barbie and Ken according to Kyle Buchanan.

A tweet from Kyle Buchanan, who is currently at Cannes, revealed that multiple actors will be taking on the helm of both Barbie and Ken in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie film. The previous casting for Barbie and Ken was limited to Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, respectively. Now, it’s reported that Simu Liu and Ncuti Gatwa will be joining Gosling as Ken, while Issa Rae and Hari Nef will be joining Robbie as Barbie.

This news has of course prompted many to speculate about a multiverse concept for the movie. The multiverse is a concept that is at the forefront of many movie goer’s minds, as recent films such as Spider-Man: No Way HomeEverything Everywhere All At Once, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has seen success adapting the concept to big screens. Some people in the comments seem to be joking about the multiverse aspect of the movie while others are taking a more serious approach.

“I am hearing incredible BARBIE goss at Cannes”

“For one, I’m hearing that Ryan Gosling is not the only Ken in the BARBIE film. Simu Liu and Ncuti Gatwa also play Kens”

“And, by the same token, Margot Robbie is not the film’s only Barbie. Issa Rae and Hari Nef play different Barbies…”

“Gaaaaaaasp! Maybe I’ve guessed correctly.”

“Apropos of nothing, I would love it if Greta Gerwig’s #BarbieMovie was a multiverse movie. Since there have been hundreds of different Barbie iterations released throughout the decades, it would be fun too see a filmmaker seize on that concept.”

“The #Barbie movie will reportedly feature multiple people playing Barbie and Ken
