This announcement video appears to be part of a larger gear up to promote the film in the Chinese market. In celebration of the Lunar New Year, The Batman released a poster of the titular character grasping a fistful of the lucky red envelopes with traditionally contain an endowment of money. The Lunar New Year, which occurred on February 1st, marked the start of the year of the water tiger.
In the poster, Batman is throwing disc shaped objects towards the viewer as he strikes an athletic pose. The poster’s purpose is two-fold— it marks the start of the Lunar New Year while evoking images of the movies title character, and it shows DC’s interest in introducing the film into the foreign market of China.
The Batman is the latest installment in the long-running DC superhero franchise. The movie will release March 4, 2022, and will feature Robert Pattinson in the star role, steering away from the path of the DCEU’s latest iteration of the Caped Crusader, played by Ben Affleck, who will show up simultaneously in 2022’s The Flash.
