Brisbane man Joseph Burke has faced court after allegedly train surfing. The 24-year-old has been charged with three counts of riding on the outside of rolling stock, and evading fares.

The Brisbane Magistrate’s Court was shown photos, allegedly of Burke, clinging onto the back of three different trains near Murarrie, Morningside, and Norman Park between February and April 2018.

In one bizarre photo, the man can allegedly be seen necking a coffee in one hand, with the other keeping him ‘secured’ to the train.

Though one might think the accusations and photos presented in court were the most bizarre thing, this isn’t the case. What’s strangers is the interview conducted with media outside the court.

When questioned by journalists outside of the Brisbane court on whether or not it was him in the images, Burke explained, “Of course not”. Straight after this, he reverted his statement, telling reporters, “Actually, you know what? I’m going to plead guilty.”

“So, I’m going to drop it for the world to see.”

In 7 News footage shows Burke flipping through images, pointing out different particular photos to reporters. After showing one image, he provides an insight to it. “That’s me not looking so good.”

He also provided confirmation of his ‘fame’, saying he always knew he “was going to be famous.”

The alleged train-surfer’s case is adjourned until 2 May, with Burke representing himself. If convicted, he could be fined upwards of $5000, though this prospect doesn’t scare the thrill seeker. He refers to it being a “minor charge.”

As part of this bizarre media interview, Burke confesses to prior crimes. The 24-year-old claims he stole a pizza from a Cannon Hill Pizza Hut. “I got a pepperoni,” he said. “My very favourite.”
