Adopting a cruelty-free lifestyle shouldn’t mean sacrificing pleasure. So we’ve put together a list of our favourite vegan and vegan-friendly eateries that Brisbane has to offer.

Nonna’s Nightmare
West End

In the running for one of the most perfectly named restaurants of all time. Nonna’s Nightmare, is a plant-based Italian joint that has reimagined Italian comfort food classics as vegan-friendly delights. Nonna’s menu recalls the kind of old style homely romance of Italian joints that still cover their tables with plaid clothes, and have that pungent Kraft parmesan in a metal dispenser; but their food is a level up. Think thick ribbons of funghi embellished pappardelle, opulent wood-fired pizza bianche with mozzarella, ‘pork & fennel’ sausage, roasted potato & capsicum and rosemary oil, and even a rich plant-based tirimus. Mangia, mangia!

Yavanna
Paddington

Comfort is key at Yavanna, a plant-based bar and eatery with a menu chock-a-block with hit-the-spot nosh. You’ll be able gorge on fried-chicken, bean-loaded chipotle nachos, chicken parmigiana and thickset burgers.

Fitz + Potts, Nundah:

This dog-friendly, vegan-friendly hotspot is the perfect place to head if you fancy sharing a couple piping hot jaffles and golden craft beers between friends. It’s also an aesthetic dream that’ll satiate all your cottagecore fantasies.

Taro’s Ramen
South Brisbane

I’m not hyperbolising when I say the one thing that has proven to be the Achilles heel in halting my vegan journey is the fucking seasoned ramen egg. God, there’s just nothing like it. Thankfully, these past few years have seen vegan ramen joints come to the forefront. Taro’s Ramen in South Brisbane delivers slurpy, satisfying goodness. The vegan ramen is available in classic, red and fire variations for whatever your tastebuds require.

It’s Mirchi Healthy Indian
Paddington

It’s Mirchi offers an absolute feast in the way of vegan-friendly Indian food. The Paddington restaurant takes pride in offering gluten-free, sugar-free and guilt-free Indian fare. Indulge in the aloo gobi and daal saagwala and thank us later. There’s also ample meat options to keep all your carnivorous friends satisfied.

Grassfed
South Brisbane

Grassfed is the brainchild between fine-dining legend Alejandro Cancino and vegan soft-serve mastermind Jonny Garrison, their plant-based venture is surely one of the finest vegan establishments in the country. Serving up absolutely gluttenous burgers brimming with Alejandro’s signature vEEF patties and a smorgasbord of Jonny’s I Should Coco coconut-based soft-serve ice-cream. Warning, a feed at Grassfed calls for a long siesta after.

September 18,
North Lakes

Traditional Malaysian fare with a plant-based twist. You’ll be able to indulge in all your favourites from laksa, satay, nasi goreng and roti canai — sans the guilty conscious. Simply to die for.

Grown
West End

West End’s vegan-centric eatery is the only place to head if you find yourself hankering for a pillowy toasty. Grown’s seasonal menu is sourced from a number of local farmers and producers. They also roast their own coffee, which is a bloomin’ delight. It’s nourishing, wholesome but completely satisfying stuff.
