Brooke Blurton – who starred as The Bachelor‘s first-ever openly bi-sexual lead – has shared some input into how she thinks The Bachelor can improve its ratings.
Towards the beginning of it’s inception, The Bachelor Australia rated very highly, racking in hundreds of thousands of viewers per episode. However, the 2021 season – which saw Jimmy Nicholson as the lead – had its worst ever launch, with just 482,000 metro viewers tuning in.
Now, Brooke Blurton has shared her two cents about how she thinks the franchise can be revived.
“Obviously there was a time where it was a little bit outdated, but I think they need to start incorporating more wholesome, intellectual conversations and people will resonate with that,” Blurton told Daily Mail Australia.
“The US one is still very successful … I think people really do love the franchise.”
The Bachelor is a worldwide TV phenomenon that started in America, international versions of the show have been filmed in Canada, the UK, Sweeden, Russia and many more countries. And, while the show has spawned a large number of international versions, Australia is the first country to feature a bi-sexual lead with mixed-gender suitors.
Last year, Blurton mixed up the franchise and worked her way through twenty men and women before deciding to give Darvid Garayeli her final rose.

“I love the franchise, and what it’s enabled me to shine a light on,” Blurton said of her experience on the show. “I came in to amp it up a little bit, but I think it still has a lot of room to grow.”
“The format originally, how it started … Hopefully it still stays to the core of finding love, and less drama,” she said.
“They should be more diverse, show more normal people. We’ve had a woman of colour, bisexual … maybe changing it up and having someone who maybe identifies different, maybe they/them, maybe someone who has a disability.
“Let’s just be a bit more inclusive and involve more people that have a beautiful story to tell and want to find love,” she told the Daily Mail.
