Ahh, the Bunnings snag – as Aussie as mullets, koalas, and vegemite on toast. Like avoiding putting ketchup on pasta in front of an Italian though, there’s a right way to enjoy the iconic snack.
That’s what swimwear brand owner Sophia found out too late as she posted a TikTok of her first-ever Bunnings snag and watched the condemnation flood in.
To cut the poor girl some slack, she is an expat, having moved to Sydney from L.A. a couple of years ago. “All right, you guys have been telling me to get a sausage sizzle for the past few years,” she says at the start of the video.
That’s when she drops an almighty bombshell: “Honestly, the Costco hot dog is so much better than this but whatever, I gave it a try.” After that sacrilegious statement, we watch Sophia make her Bunnings snag with a sausage and fried onion shoved between two slices of white bread.
Yes, Aussie readers, you read that right – two slices of white bread. Aussie viewers soon made it clear to her that a classic Bunnings snag comes served in just one slice of bread, a small but important distinction. “You’re eating it wrong,” someone simply noted. “Two slices of bread, that’s illegal,” agreed another.
Sophia quickly responded to the criticism, insisting that the Gladesville Bunnings store served her it that way. “Guys this is how they gave it to me,” she replied. Expect an official Bunnings inquiry into the Gladesville store to begin shortly. As another TikTok user stated, “Whoever ran the sausage sizzle goofed.”
In other Bunnings snag-related news, one courageous eater recently revealed where the best sausage sizzle in the entire country could be found. Josh Eastwell has travelled to 282 Bunnings locations over the last two years to decide once and for all which one has the best snag.

According to him, the best one is located at Bunnings Warehouse in Seaford, Victoria. “You’ve got pork, beef, chicken, wholemeal, wholegrain, rolls – they had the works,” he said.
