Foxtel has confirmed the return of Celebrity Gogglebox which is great but I could really have used it in lockdown.

As per The Daily Mail, Foxtel confirmed the news after months of speculation about the show’s return. The special one-off event will arrive on TV next year ahead of the normal Gogglebox‘s 15th season. 15th season? That’s a lot of time watching people watch TV.

The new batch of famous faces/couch potatoes hasn’t been announced yet, although there’s been plenty of rumours floating about.

Australian Idol alumni Anthony Callea and his husband Tim Campbell have been discussed, as has fashion designer Alex Perry. A source at Endemol, who produce Gogglebox, recently told The Daily Mail that several well-known ‘colourful personalities’ had been contacted about taking part in the show.

Producers are reportedly aiming for famous duos rather than just rounding up celebrities and throwing them together randomly in a household. The insider also said that past cast members from Married at First Sight, Beauty and the Geek, and MasterChef are in contention.

I think they should aim much, much higher. Let’s get the Hemsworth brothers discussing nature documentaries. Now she’s coming back to Australia, let’s have Kylie and Dannii chilling out watching Neighbours. Let’s see if Nick Kyrgios fancies trashing the performances at January’s Australian Open.

The Celebrity Gogglebox event was announced as part of Foxtel’s Upfronts for new and returning shows in 2022. The Great Australian Bake Off and Selling Houses are also making their return next year.
