In a recent interview Charlie Cox said he thinks that while he enjoys Ben Affleck’s portrayal of Matt Murdock, his Daredevil suit sucks.

Charlie Cox is the longest-tenured Daredevil to date with three seasons on Netflix’s Daredevil show, a lead role in Netflix’s Defenders team-up, and his latest outing as Daredevil in the MCU’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. While Cox may be the Daredevil fans know best, the first to portray the character was Ben Affleck back in the 2003 movie titled simply Daredevil.

The character has come quite a long way since 2003 and now even has a spot in the grander picture of the MCU. The character is reported to return to the MCU and is rumoured to be appearing in the Disney+ She-Hulk show. Cox had quite the experience being brought into the fold of the MCU, and even said he thought the experience was a dream at a certain point.

“I got a phone call saying, ‘Do you want to come back? Do you want to be in Spider-Man?’ and I was like, ‘Obviously, yeah! That would be amazing. I’m thrilled. I’d love to do that.’ They said ‘Great, we’ll be in touch.’ and then I didn’t hear anything for, like, two months! I did get to the point where I was like, ‘Did I dream this?’ – I definitely got to the point where I was, like, ‘I don’t know what’s gonna happen.’ But then I got a follow-up phone call.”

Cox on Affleck’s Daredevil

At the Middle East Film and Comic Con in Abu Dhabi, Cox has this to say on Affleck’s Daredevil:

Interviewer: “What is your connection with 2004’s Daredevil movie [with] Ben Affleck? What connects you to it?”

Cox: “Well… I watched it once and then… I wanted to go and do my own thing.”

“No, after I got the role. I hadn’t seen it before I got the role. I watched it when I got the role and, to be fair… I think Ben Affleck does a really good Matt Murdock, I like his Matt Murdock… I don’t love the movie… I feel like the movie tried to do too much and it was a little tonally confused. They had everyone in that movie, they had Kingpin, they had Bullseye, they had Elektra, they had Karen Page, they had Foggy. It was saturated and it was two hours. So that was part of that problem. And the suit sucks!”
