If you need a new experience to spice up your weekend date night, Melbourne’s Chef David is surely the place to be with their massive menu of big, Sichuan-inspired flavours.

Melbourne is home to so many good restaurants, especially for those who are craving the taste of Asia. There’s JiYu with their Thai hot pots, Musou serving up tastebud-tingling stir fry, and even Grand Lafayette which offers an all-you-can-eat Japanese menu. But, let’s introduce you to another that should be on your radar: Chef David, who’s serving up a heap and a half of Sichuan-inspired dishes that will knock your socks off.

You won’t even realise you’re on Elizabeth Street when you walk into Chef David, as the atmosphere takes you away with its neon lights, winding pathways, and overall aesthetic looks. Then, once you’re at the table, your thrusted into technology as your table will wirelessly charge your phone for you, and their menu is there for you in a convenient iPad – and, let’s be thankful for that because there’s SO much on the menu!

So, what’s on that menu? First off, they’ve got ridiculously fresh sashimi that is served over dry ice that releases its fog around the table. Then, you’ve got an array of small plates to look forward to, like tender pork ribs, fermented rice doughnuts, or eggy fried rice – each packing a massive amount of flavour.

But, the big show comes when they bring out the grill right to your table and you’ve got an endless array of skewers. There’s so much on the menu to taste, but the green bean skewers with Sichuan pepper dusted on top are delicious, as well as the tender pork belly, the prawns, and the garlicky enoki mushrooms.

Feeling something more? They’ve even got a hot pot option where you can cook whole fish with all the additions you can imagine such as vegetables, spices, and more. Or, if you’re feeling even more adventurous, you could dive into their chicken skin, duck gizzard, or even pig intestines.

Whichever way you fancy, you’re sure to not be disappointed at Chef David. And, you’ll for sure leave feeling absolutely stuffed because their menu knows no end.
