One of the main draws of the upcoming Marvel film Thor: Love and Thunder is getting to see Christian Bale in another superhero film. It almost didn’t happen, however, and all because of a G-string. You read that correctly.
In a recent interview with Total Film, the iconic Hollywood actor revealed he was worried about portraying Gorr the God Butcher after discovering he likes to attack his victims wearing basically just a G-string.
“I did make the mistake of Googling him and, oh no! (In the comics) he runs around in a G-string all the time, and I thought, ‘They don’t have the right man for that!'” Bale said.
It was then time for the film’s director, Taika Waititi, to come to the rescue. “And then Taika quickly dispelled any notions of running around in that,” the actor added. “But I always did think what he could do with this in front of a bluescreen – he could chuck on whatever he wants later on.”

If you saw the trailer for the film that dropped last month, you’ll know that everything worked out in the end. It offered an enticing look at Bale as Gorr, with the character unmistakably being the actor despite being covered under heavy makeup.
Natalia Portman’s returning Jane Foster featured heavily in the trailer, assuming the mantle of Mighty Thor and generally causing Thor’s heart to flutter. Expect a huge ‘will-they-won’t-they’ to ensue in the upcoming film. Russell Crowe also arrives towards the end, causing poor Thor to become naked in front of a huge crowd.
In Thor: Love and Thunder, Thor is trying to find inner peace, but is soon called back into action alongside Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and the aforementioned Jane to stop the menacing Gorr from eliminating all gods.
Taika Waititi’s reward for transforming the Thor franchise with 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok is to helm the upcoming film, and the trailer showcases his trademark droll wit. It’s his first film since winning an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay three years ago for Jojo Rabbit.
Thor: Love and Thunder is a notable work for Hemsworth, with the Aussie star now the first Marvel actor to lead a fourth solo film. His last appearance came in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, which memorably saw Thor grow depressed after failing to thwart Thanos.
Elsewhere in the Total Film interview, Bale also revealed that a certain au courant singer’s music was almost set to feature in the film. “Taika and I wanted to do a whole dance, which we didn’t get to do, but we had all this sort of Kate Bush stuff that we worked at. But I think he just realized he was never going to be allowed to put that in the final film,” he said.
Thor: Love and Thunder is set to arrive in cinemas on July 8th.
