The newest movie from Christopher Nolan, Oppenheimer is so coveted that actors are signing up for roles they don’t know about yet.
Christopher Nolan’s casting process in Oppenheimer has taken secrecy to a new level, as actors are reportedly joining the cast before they know what role they’re getting into. No matter the part, it appears many in Hollywood are chomping at the bit to get in on his new project.
The latest person to get into the cast is Alex Wolff, whose most recent appearances were in M. Night Shyamalan’s Old and the indie movie Pig, which starred Nicolas Cage. Wolff was one of the stars of Ari Aster’s horror film Hereditary and also appeared in the newest installments of the Jumanji movies. Alex Wolff’s role has yet to be revealed.
The film has been shooting in New Mexico for a few weeks and is not done adding actors to its roster.
Nolan’s Oppenheimer has added one more star player to its already stacked cast in the form of Belfast director Kenneth Branagh. Nolan will be directing Oppenheimer and will be writing the story with Kai Bird and Martin Sherwin. The up-to-date full cast is as follows:
Cillian Murphy – J. Robert Oppenheimer
Florence Pugh – Jean Tatlock

Cillian Murphy, who is playing the titular role of Oppenheimer, the person many people associate with being ‘the father of the atomic bomb,’ prepared for the part extensively. In a conversation with The Guardian Cillian spoke on his admiration for Nolan as a director, what it means to work with him, and compares Nolan to some of the best directors in the game today.
“I’ll always turn up for Chris, whatever the size of the part. Chris will call me up and I’m there. Isn’t it wonderful that filmmakers are still making challenging, demanding films within the studio system, shot on film rather than Imax? I think he’s flying the flag. Him, Paul Thomas Anderson and Quentin Tarantino, are fantastic filmmakers making interesting work on a massive scale.”
Murphy said he had been doing “an awful lot of reading”.“I’m interested in the man and what [inventing the atomic bomb] does to the individual,” he said. “The mechanics of it, that’s not really for me – I don’t have the intellectual capability to understand them, but these contradictory characters are fascinating.”
Oppenheimer is set to release in theaters on July 21, 2023 and will be the 11th film from Christopher Nolan.
