There are few famous folk left who aren’t a little bit problematic. Tom Hanks, maybe. Jacinda Ardern, sure. Sir David Attenborough? 100%.

The voice of a thousand soothing and fascinating nature documentaries has a new Netflix special releasing Sunday, October 4th, titled David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet. It will offer an overview of the British icon’s career, as well as providing an ecological plan of action to ensure that life as we know it continues to exist on earth.

A new promotional video was released to coincide with the documentary, featuring celebrity fans of Attenborough enjoying the opportunity to pose a question to him.

Billie Eilish, Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams, David Beckham, and Dame Judi Dench all get a turn with the legendary 94-year-old broadcaster.

Superstar singer Eilish asked: “How do you cope with your personal feelings about all the animals that are losing their lives, and/or going extinct? How do you actually deal with that as a human being?”

Attenborough said he feels “desperate” about the situation, adding: “I think the most astonishing sight in the natural world that I’ve ever seen, and one I shall never forget, [was] the first time I dived on a coral reef.

“You go into a new world, and it’s a world of extraordinary beauty and complexity and wonder. You see all kinds of wonderfully-coloured fish, and lots of creatures you don’t even know exist,” he added, revealing that, upon returning to the reef years later, he was greeted with a scene that he likened to “a cemetery”.

Beckham then asked what message the presenter would want to send children about the future of the planet.

He replied: “To look after the wild world of which we are a part. To care for the animals you see. ‘Don’t waste things – don’t waste food or electricity. Look after the natural world – it is the most precious thing we have and we are a part of it.’”

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also tweeted out a clip of their three young children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis questioning Attenborough about nature. It’s downright adorable.

In the first time speaking in public, Prince Louis asked what animals Attenborough liked: “I like monkeys best because they are such fun,” he replied. “Mind you, you can’t have monkeys sitting around the home because that’s not where they live.”

“So what can you have at home that you like? Well, which would you choose – a puppy or a kitten?” said Sir David, before continuing: “It’s a very difficult question. I think I’d go for a puppy.”
