Ahead of David Fincher’s return to the big screen for the first time in six years, Netflix has shared a teaser for his upcoming film Mank.
Before we proceed, it won’t be wrong to say that David Fincher’s Mank is easily one of the most anticipated movies of this hellhole of a year. The last we witnessed Fincher’s mastery was in 2014’s Gone Girl, which earned him and the cast multiple nominations at the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards.
Based on a 2003 script written by his father, Jack, David Fincher’s latest, Mank, promises to be an equally compelling story of 1930’s Hollywood greed and glamour.
Keeping in line with the times, the trailer is seeped in appropriate black and white and stars Gary Oldman as Herman J. Mankiewicz, a screenwriter locked in battle with director Orson Welles over credits for the screenplay of Citizen Kane. We also get glimpses of Amanda Seyfried as Marion Davies and Charles Dance as William Randolph Hearst.

“David Fincher’s MANK is a scathing social critique of 1930s Hollywood through the eyes of alcoholic screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz (Gary Oldman) as he races to finish the screenplay of Citizen Kane.” said Netflix in a statement accompanying the trailer release.
The trailer’s music will also be familiar territory for Fincher fans. For Mank, he returns to Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. This, of course, is not Fincher’s first collaboration with the duo — the three have worked together on The Social Network, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, and Gone Girl.
For their work on The Social Network, Reznor and Ross won the Academy Award For Best Original Score, while their soundtrack for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo won them the Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media.
Mank arrives on Netflix on Friday, December 4th.
