David Harbour of Stranger Things has just been cast in the upcoming Gran Turismo movie coming from Sony and Playstation.

The Stranger Things star has officially been set to star in the upcoming Gran Turismo adaptation, a movie based on Sony and Playstation’s best-selling racing game. Neill Blomkamp, who is known for movies such as District 9Elysium, and Chappie, will be stepping outside of his usual realm of sci-fi to helm the adaptation.

The film will be based around the video game and a true story about a Gran Turismo player who was so skilled they went on to win a series of Nissan competitions before becoming an actual professional race car driver. The script for the movie is by Jason Hall and Zach Baylin.

David Harbour is set to play a retired driver who takes on the young gamer as his apprentice— teaching them how to drive. This is familiar ground for Harbour, who has experience playing a gruff mentor-figure in Netflix’s Stranger Things.

PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan, as well as Doug Belgrad and Dana Brunetti, are producing. Game creators Kazunori Yamauchi and Hall are executive producing.

“As one of PlayStation’s longest standing and most beloved franchises, it’s great to be partnering with Columbia Pictures again to bring Gran Turismo to life in an exciting way,” said Qizilbash in a statement. “We can’t wait for audiences to see Neill’s vision of this inspiring true story of gamer turned professional race car driver.”

The video game’s first installment came in 1997, a game that pushed the envelope for racing games of the time. The franchise has continued to put out game-after-game with each new generation of console, living exclusively on Playstation. Since its release, Gran Turismo is the highest-selling Sony game of all time.
