Delta Goodrem has opened up about the grief she felt when her mentor and friend Olivia Newton-John died earlier this year.

Delta famously played the part of Olivia in the miniseries Olivia Newton-John: Hopelessly Devoted to You which was released in 2018. The two women were close friends and recorded multiple songs together.

Olivia Newton-John passed away at her Ranch in Southern California in August after a long battle with breast cancer.

Speaking of Olivia’s passing, Delta said: “It is a big change in my life losing a dear friend and mentor.

“I think we all feel it. And [as for] Olivia, I will keep sharing her light and her important health and wellness mission,” she continues.

“That’s important. I have always shared my love for Olivia, and this won’t change. It has definitely been a big change in my life… I’m still processing it,” she told Daily Telegraph.

In August, Delta posted a photo of her and Olivia together accompanied by an emotional message.

“The whole world will feel this heartbreak today because the entire world felt Olivia’s unmatched light. A force for good. A force of nature. Strong and kind. my mentor, my friend, my inspiration, someone who always guided me… she was always there for me. Family to me. I don’t have all the words I would like to say today but I hope everyone will join in celebrating our beloved Olivia, her heart, soul, talent, courage, grace…” She wrote.

Delta joined Robbie Williams to perform at the AFL grand final last month. The singer said, “It’s an absolutely full-circle moment coming to play at the Grand Final with Robbie Williams, who is a history-making, incredible entertainer”.

Robbie Williams returned the compliment by calling Delta “the loveliest person, both inside and out – beautiful and incredibly talented”.
