Harry Shearer is currently in the midst of legal drama involving past Spinal Tap royalties, but despite this mucky mess, his alter ego Derek Smalls has gone solo and is playing the Sydney Opera House in October.

‘Lukewarm Water Live: An Adventure in Loud Music’ will see the bassist team up with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra for a mix of Spinal Tap classics, and a number of new tunes from his forthcoming solo album, about the life of an aging rocker.

“When they told me I was going to perform at Sydney Opera House, I was really chuffed”, Smalls said. “I was halfway through learning the Habanera from Carmen when they told me two things: that was for a soprano, and they want me to play my music. So I’m going to write some. Now I’m really chuffed.”

Tickets go on sale this Friday, June 30. The shows are on Thursday, 12 October and Friday, 13 October at the Concert Hall, Sydney Opera House.
