We already knew the month for the highly-anticipated arrival of the Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series but now Disney+ has confirmed the official release date.

Last month, Disney+ Enterprise/Global Program manager Brandon SanGiovanni accidentally revealed that Obi-Wan Kenobi would release on the streaming platform in May 2022. The poor sod tried to walk back his revelation, claiming he was actually referring to the Obi-Wan Kenobi comic book series but the damage was done.

The Hollywood Reporter then corroborated the rumour and fans have been patiently waiting for the official May release date ever since. Well dust off those lightsabers because Disney+ has today confirmed that Obi-Wan Kenobi will arrive on May 25th – how they didn’t think to make it May 4th, however, we’ll never know.

While spinoffs like The Mandalorian have been well-received, this is the big one – Ewan McGregor’s return as the iconic Obi-Wan is the most anticipated Star Wars project since The Force Awakens. Sand-hater Hayden Christensen is also returning as Darth Vader, and Kathleen Kennedy has teased the series will have the “rematch of the century”.

If that wasn’t enough, Luke Skywalker is also expected to appear in the series – please check on the Star Wars fan in your life come May 25th, this all might be too much for them to handle. The series takes place 10 years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, and is expected to initially contain six episodes.

McGregor has spoken about his excitement at returning to the franchise. “Oh my gosh, well I loved playing him again,” he revealed. “I mean it’s quite interesting, after the experience of making the first three films and living through sort of their reception in the world, which wasn’t always glowing, I have to say.

And then now, meeting the generation who we made those films for, the children then – and now, people in their late teens or early 20s, those people who were kids who we made those films for, they loved them. To them, they’re their Star Wars films, you know?
